Religion

Books never create religion, but religion makes books.
- Vivekananda

Our words have weight. They can inspire us to live a better life, to help one another or to rise above our present situation. Think of one of the great quotes by JFK, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can dofor your country.". If we have any hopes of making our world a
better place, our education should come from history and from the people who made history great. If you need help, you can start with an online college degree program. Your future awaits.

Religion, as it is generally taught all over the world, is said to be based upon faith and belief, and, in most cases, consists only of different sets of theories, and that is the reason why we find all religions quarrelling with one another. These theories, again, are based upon belief. One man says there is a great Being sitting above the clouds and governing the whole universe, and he asks me to believe that solely on the authority of his assertion. In the same way, I may have my own ideas, which I am asking others to believe, and if they ask a reason, I cannot give them any. This is why religion and metaphysical philosophy have a bad name nowadays. Every educated man seems to say, "Oh, these religions are only bundles of theories without any standard to judge them by, each man preaching his own pet ideas." Nevertheless, there is a basis of universal belief in religion, governing all the different theories and all the varying ideas of different sects in different countries. Going to their basis we find that they also are based upon universal experiences. .......HA! HA! (YES! YES!) MacVegan

""The very purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticize others. Rather, we must criticize ourselves. How much am I doing about my anger? About my attachment, about my hatred, about my pride, my jealousy? These are the things which we must check in daily life."" MacVegan

"More people have been slaughtered in the name of religion than for any other single reason. That, my friends, that is true perversion."....

quote is by Harvey Milk who was a gay activist from San Francisco in the 80's. He was elected to Mayor of the city and was shot by a fellow representative of the city who's defense was called the "twinkie defense" beceause he said that he ate so many twinkies that it raised his sugar level and caused him to go mad. it actually worked and he was only sentenced to a minimal amount of jail time. I think that this quote is signficant because it is organized religion that is so anti perversion and religious leaders are so compelled to tell us what is right and wrong with our life's but in their own life's they are perverted, cruel, harsh to pass judgment and allow millions of people to die for what they believe to be holy and absolute........MacVegan

"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness."
Dalai Lama .......this is a significant quote from a man that was persecuted by the Chinese because his religious beliefs offended the government. He was forced to flee Tibet after many of his peaceful citizens were killed, raped and tortured for no appasrent reason other than they offended the Chinese government and they are still persecuted to this day. The Dalai Lama continues to lecture and journey around the world preaching his love and peacefullness.......MacVegan

"I am a deeply religious nonbeliever - This is a somewhat new kind of religion"
Albert Einstein .........Jitendra, I thought you might like this quote by Mr. Einstein. I can really relate to this quote as I feel the same way. I believe in religion for others in many conflicting ways. There is good, bad and indifferent. Religion is a thought, a cultural existense, a "matter of fact," a means to control people and a means to inspire and enlighten people, a means to create controversy and disassociate people from others, a means to revel conflict and hatred, a means to kill in the name of one's god and a means to enoy peace and freedon. Relgion is the most amazing cultural phenonenon in our history. Relgion is as good as it is bad. It is a brilliant as it is ignorant, it is as shining as it is dull, it is a just as it is blind, it is as uplifiting as it is imprisoning, it brings hope and life as it also brings despair and death..............MacVegan original......
